After the history packed with murders, assassinations,
attacks, hate, closed borders, invasions, and claims of genocide...
This was the first time that a president of the Turkish Republic has
paid a visit to Armenia. Since this was a historic visit, I allocate my
entire column to this visit I paid together with President Abdullah Gul.
This
was the atmosphere just after the match... The two presidents are
having a conversation, and we are listening to them. Jokes are being
made. The Armenians had prepared a very nice open buffet. There was no
sign of victory or defeat on their faces. Gul turns to Sargsyan and
says:
-I will visit Azerbaijan after my visit here. I hope positive developments will emerge...
Sargsyan replies:
- Of course... We are ready.
This is very important because Sargsyan clearly states, “We want the borders open with Turkey. We want a solution to problems."
What I understand from these remarks are:
1- A new period can start between Azerbaijan and Armenia after this visit. The foreign ministers have already met but this period will mostly be a solution period... Turkey
will take on the mediator role. Gul's saying that he would visit the
Armenian president shows that such an attempt is being undertaken by
both presidents.
2-
The technical issues were not debated during this visit, but a new map
for Nagorno-Karabakh can be brought to the table in the future...Gul's
visit to Baku is a sign of this.
3-
I had the opportunity to have a brief conversation with the Armenian
president. I noticed that he was really sincere and desires a solution.
He has a positive disposition.
4- We realized while in the country that Gul's visit to Yerevan was the best possible decision. With good risk management, new doors for the Caucasus can be opened as a result of this visit.
NO WORDS ABOUT SO-CALLED GENOCIDE
The atmosphere of elation on the plane on the way to home after Turkey beat Armenia
2-0 was greater than the jubilance of victory in the match. That is
because the approximately 12-hour long visit transformed tension into
success. And this was clearly written all over Gul's face.
It was worth to taking the risk...
Here are some of important remarks Gul made on the return journey from Yeravan to Ankara:
-They
never mentioned the so-called genocide issue. Leaving that aside, they
did not even imply it or mention it indirectly. They might have even
hinted at it, but they did not.
- We saw that they were as unbiased as us...
-An atmosphere has been created which would allow all the issues to be undertaken one by one
-They spoke very comprehensively of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
-The Azeri and Armenian presidents can come together in the future. I will pay a visit to Azerbaijan in the coming days.
-The
visit was certainly risky. We could have announced it one week earlier,
but certain preparations had to be made for security reasons.
-
What would happen had we not paid this visit? There would be no result.
The price we pay would continue to grow had no action been taken.
- In fact, the invitation to the match sent the ball into our field. This visit we sent the ball back into their field.

Turkey Saves Blockaded Armenia with Humanitarian Assistance

I do not think I am far from the truth - whatever they say.
We will soon see, but by then, as usual in Armenia, the horse will already have bolted.
Where is the article from?

Who wrote this?
The link to "hurriyet" takes you to the front page of (not the specific article) a Turkish paper that doesn't have an English version as far as I could determine. So where did the English translation of that specific article come from?
It's hard to judge if you don't know who wrote what you are reading.

Thanks for the link.

They must have been speaking Turkish during the meeting.
I have to admit, with regard to the humanitarian assistance, that this is a complicated issue: there are so many factors in play, one needs one of those 20 sq ft sized computers to calculate all of the possibilities.
The question is whether gangsters profiting off of Armenia, on the one hand, and the good of the Armenian people, on the other hand, are necessarily mutually exclusive. I'm leaning toward a "yes" answer, but I'm not sure. More specifically, what is the correct "price" for the very important condition of having open borders with Turkey? It's a gauging problem.

Serj is just trying to win

Serj is just trying to win time acting as if he is dedicated to reforms and in setting precedent to a new era in Armenian politics.
His fall is a matter of time because what he is doing is fake.
One's habbits tell enough about the person. He is sly like/as a long time poker player/gamble. However the odds never work in favour of players (basic probability). It is most dangerous when a gambler plays the property of other people. Sooner he is stopped better.

Spoken like a true woman. Thank you, sweetheart.
About the issue at hand: Something is up. I don't know what, but something very much seems to be up. Perhaps, they are waiting for the US elections.

Turkish Journalist Says Border Opening Unlikely Without ‘Progress’ on Karabakh
A Turkish journalist writing for one of the world’s leading newsmagazines calls it unimaginable that any government in her country will reopen the land border with Armenia without “being able to report some progress on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.”

Abdullah Gul: “Armenians are inclined to leave the occupied Azerbaijani territories"
http://en.apa.az/news.php?id=88446
Ankara – APA. Turkish President Abdullah Gul, who had ended his short-term visit to Azerbaijan and returned to Ankara, briefed a group of media representatives on board the plane.
APA reports quoting Turkish media that Abdullah Gul said Turkey’s policy concerning Nagorno Karabakh had not changed.
“Azeris should not worry. Turkey has always supported Azerbaijan’s struggle at the sacrifice of its interests. We are parts of Turkish nation,” he said.
Abdullah Gul said he respected the strictures voiced in Turkey and Azerbaijan over his visit to Armenia.
“Isn’t this visit important if we achieve solution to the problem and Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is restored? We discussed with Sarkisian the situation in the Caucasus, problems between Azerbaijan and Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh conflict,” he said.
Turkish President said Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian wanted the problems with Azerbaijan to be solved.
“Armenians are inclined to leave the occupied Azerbaijani territories. I felt this at the meeting with Sarkisian. Of course, the refugees will return and occupation will end,” he said.
Abdullah Gul also underlined that he was satisfied with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev’s position.
That is exactly what I have been saying for a year
Bruce Tasker 1 year 26 weeks ago
That is exactly what I have been saying for a year, Armenia (Serzh) is now going for a comprehensive resolution of all the outstanding problems, mainly Genocide and the surrounding territories, plus Eastern Turkish land. That is why Gul is now in Baku, to pass the message on the Aliyev, that Serzh is ready to leave the the occupied Azerbaijani territories.
These are the two fundamental points of contention for Armenians who say "we will never give up Genocide and we will never give up Karabakh". Moreover, not long ago Armenia's authorities tried to convince Armenia that Genocide and Karabakh are separate issues, but as I have been writing, they are inextricably linked.
The question is, will we ever know about the billions of dollars Serzh and Robby will get for this 'Betrayal', as ace so succinctly put it.
