How does this site work?

How does this site work?

Khosq.com is a Free and Open experiment in Participatory Citizen Journalism, as well as a Sharing site, where people can share and discover most interesting and most recommended content from around Armenian-related Web.

Anybody can create a free user account and publish their own articles or just links to external articles, videos and podcasts that they found to be interesting or important.

Articles can be about anything: from smallest local events to a global historical analysis.

After the article is submitted it is automatically published in the “Latest” queue of news, where it can stay for up to 7 days. Registered users can then vote each article up or down, and with enough "Up" votes the highest scoring articles are automatically promoted to the front page.  With too many "Down" votes, however, the articles will automatically "sink".  This is how the editorial control over the front page of khosq is passed to its members through a system of popular Direct-Democratic vote.

Khosq.com is a mix between Indymedia, Newsvine and digg.com. People can submit articles written by themselves (like on Indymedia), or they can submit interesting URL links to videos or news stories like on social bookmarking sites (such as digg.com or StumbleUpon.com). Therefore, it’s not only an open publishing platform, but also a place to share links that you found to be interesting, fun or important in ArmNet or anything even remotely relevant to Armenia, Diaspora, Caucasus or World News.

People can now not only read the news, but also write the news. In effect, Khosq.com provides a free self-publishing platform that empowers the people to

A) Publish Content, and

B) collectively exercise the Decision-making powers of the Editor in Chief, as they vote (Up/Down) and thus decide what appears on the front page of khosq.com

khosq.com is also a place where you can read syndicated blog entries from the Armenian blogosphere and Press. (If you think that the contents of your blog are newsworthy and if you would like to see your blog feed to be included in our aggregator, please contact us)

Registered users can also use khosq.com as a Social Networking Site to follow each other's posts.

That’z it…

Enjoy!
